Our DJ booth renovation & speaker repositioning made it just in time for the launch of our new monthly ‘ELECTRO’ series at LAVISH. The premiere theme was ELECTROBEACH, with a dance floor full of sand and palm leaves hanging from the ceiling. It literally felt like an outdoor night rave on the beach.

We didn’t anticipate such a massive turn out and were understaffed. But the entire night went by ever-so-smoothly! There was so much love in the air and the people were so respectful. House music is harmonious in connecting people together and we were thrilled to be able hone the perfect atmosphere for all you beautiful people to party in.

HALLOWEEN WEEKEND RECAP 2012 #LDNont #costumecontest #VOTE

After a full day of recovery from all that monster juice I think it’s safe to say this past weekend was a fright to remember!  I don’t know if the anticipation leading up to, or the actual party was more exciting?! Although when I walked into the club as a ‘regular’ patron I pretty much exploded in excitement…

This is the first year I’ve gotten experience a Lavish Halloween (as a guest) in full force! The game plan was fully laid out and my team did an amazing job executing the coveted weekend! Thanks to everyone who dressed up, brought the spirit, ate all the candy & danced like we’re gonna die young! (a shout out to DJ Pablo Ramirez for a perfect monster mash up)

A HUGE thank you also goes out to the staff, entertainers, TMA bloggers for seamlessly orchestrating your own piece, and to the photography team for capturing all the awesome memories.

You know… the best part about my job is when I’m out and about in the city and when LAVISH happens to come up in conversation, 9/10 times folks mention how friendly, open, happy & diverse the clientele are. So thank YOU all so much for bringing the party, the positive vibes, opening up your hearts up and allowing us to penetrate you with all we got!

The weekend is over but the party in still continuing tomorrow night for CAMEO All Ages Halloween. There will be a 19+ drinking section in the lounge and the dance floor will be for all ages with many local entertainers.  Thanks in advance for letting us share the space with the many LGBTQ youth.  It is a very special night for them.

Saturday night we doubled the number of people we usually have at LAVISH – there were so many new faces!  Usually this time of year the students go home, and the city starts to wind down in numbers.  Last night had the opposite effect at LAVISH & ELEVATE (L&E)!  The party was great and the vibe felt new & fresh!

It’s a really nice change in scene.  The wild student crowd (they are so much fun!) fades into a more relaxed vibe with an eclectic mix of local socials.  It’s great that all my downtown neighbors are also visiting L&E each weekend.  The new relaxed atmosphere is amazing, yet you can still go down to LAVISH and dance your asses off to DJ Pablo Ramirez on Saturdays!

For the first time in 3 1/2 years we’re changing the weekly name of Fridays from “JBY” to “The Social”.  We’ll be featuring different LAVISH mixes (by DJ Eddy) earlier in the night from 8PM-11PM on ELEVATE. This weekend we’ll feature the ‘Strange Condition’ House Mix. (extended play).  I love the melodic vocals in this mix and it sounds amazing under the sky!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 9th! I encourage everyone to try one of downtown’s amazing restaurants then join us on the rooftop at 8PM!  It’s the big ELEVATE Grand Opening and we got lots of amazing entertainment for you!  Local fashion designers from Fanshawe College are also putting on a fashion show with their exclusive summer line!

I’m still taking in all the excitement and can’t wait to soon relax with everyone after the Grand Opening! Have an amazing week & see you next weekend!

GRAND OPENING DETAILS

[INSIDE SCOOP] ELEVATE Rooftop Patio – How it all started…

Well, I was gonna save my patio spiel for the grand opening on Saturday, June 9th (event soon to be launched). But since the patio…& the weather were ahead of schedule, I may as well give you the inside scoop on LAVISH’ baby brother ELEVATE.

Believe it or not, a rooftop patio was in the plan since day one. Money ran short so it only made sense to hold the project off and gradually ELEVATE “above lavish”. First we had the caged fence that kept falling over. Then we built the 20′ x 6′ fenced pig pen patio. Next was the 20′ x 15′ jail cell smoking patio with soaring 20′ walls… Which is now a beautiful glass railing stairwell leading to the new 20′ x 50′ rooftop patio we call ELEVATE.

Summer of 2011 I sampled many rooftop patios across Toronto, “…I really want to bring a piece of this to my city!”.  The ideas were grande & exciting and the investment would be over the top! It was a big risk but I had to finally take that dive into the deep end…and it couldn’t be half ass. I think London (especially the downtown core) deserves the best so it only made sense to build something Londoners would be really proud of!

It started with a 10 minute coffee meeting with my contractor, weeks of planning , 4 months of solid work, then the vision became reality.  Thank you to all my contractors involved with the project & a bigger thank you to all the LAVISH regulars who have been so patient with the construction inconveniences. I couldn’t have gotten this far if it wasn’t for you!

The two soft opening weekends of testing the waters out have been immensely successful and the excitement has rippled out to many folks I’ve never seen before! A big thanks to my staff for all their hard work maintaining a safe space for the LGBTQ community and everyone who loves to party at London’s most diverse nightclub & now roof top patio.

[ARTICLE] THE GAY BAR. Is it dying?

IS THE GAY BAR DYING: PERSONAL THOUGHTS

I came across a very interesting read tonight by June Thomas. It struck my attention because it hits home (directly). The Gay Bar…is it dying? Before I even dove into the lengthy article I already had personal views on this topic. Is it dying? YES it is. But it will never be fully dead. I’m only familiar with 2 ‘gay night scenes’ but I’m well aware it’s the same across the country.

First off, let’s talk about the Toronto gay nightlife scene. Coming directly from Toronto folks, they say “Church Street IS dying”. Even super gay club ‘Fly’ is potentially getting torn down and erected into condominiums. The gays have really spread themselves out east and west partying, hosting, promoting at ‘straight’ / mixed venues rather being faithful to the Church stomping grounds week after week(like it was years ago). They don’t abandon their local watering holes but frequent them less. Especially in big urban cities the growing acceptance of gays and lesbians allow them to mesh in heterosexual venues.

Back to my city (London, ON). Years ago, the days London had several co-existing gay bars and each night at least one of them would be packed (so the older folks say) are long gone. Present day, Cruising/meeting people can be done online/cell phones and frequenting hetero venues are far too common.

INSIDE SCOOP: Twisted Red Riding Hood Videoshoot

It’s that time of year again – HALLOWEEKEND! This year Halloween Eve falls on a Sunday so we’re doing two HUGE parties. On Saturday Honey Brown is hosting ‘TWISTED RED RIDING HOOD’ & Sunday is LOLLIPOP: 80s, 90s, 00s – Official Halloween Edition.

On October 1st LAVISH is producing a mini trailer for ‘TWISTED RED RIDING HOOD’. It will feature Honey Brown as Riding Hood shot in the deep forest ‘city’ & on the LAVISH dancefloor. We invite you to be apart the ‘club scene’ production at midnight. Take a look at the storyboard for the inside scoop!
