[DOWNLOAD/DONATE] Samantha Hooey – Black to Blue (100% of proceeds go to Burkitt’s Lymphoma Society)
Everyone is faced with some form of adversity in their lives. It’s that adversity which makes us stronger, and can bring people together to create invaluable connections. It’s the hardships and tragedies is in life that reveal to us how resilient the human spirit can be, as well as make us realize how precious life truly is.
That is what this song is about.
I wrote Black To Blue shortly after being told I was cancer free in 2010. As many of you know I had a type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma called Burkitt’s Lymphoma. Burkitt’s is a very rare and aggressive form of cancer. Because of that it can sometimes go misdiagnosed. That is why spreading awareness about this disease is so important. The Burkitt’s Lymphoma Society is a wonderful organization which promotes awareness as well as supports those affected by it. It has helped me through my journey and is a cause that is very dear to my heart. It was also being a part of this group which lead me to meet survivor Zach Ariah. After speaking with Zach and learning that he is also a musician, I asked him if he would like to play bass on the song. With the chances of getting this type of cancer literally being 1 in a million, it was very special to be able to connect with another survivor to work together on this track.
With that being said, I am very excited for this release. The song is only $1, and all funds will be going towards the Burkitt’s Lymphoma Society.

LAVISH THE MORNING AFTER [ELECTROBEACH]

THEME: ELECTROBEACH
DATE: Friday, January 18th, 2013
DJ: Eddy
Our DJ booth renovation & speaker repositioning made it just in time for the launch of our new monthly ‘ELECTRO’ series at LAVISH. The premiere theme was ELECTROBEACH, with a dance floor full of sand and palm leaves hanging from the ceiling. It literally felt like an outdoor night rave on the beach.
We didn’t anticipate such a massive turn out and were understaffed. But the entire night went by ever-so-smoothly! There was so much love in the air and the people were so respectful. House music is harmonious in connecting people together and we were thrilled to be able hone the perfect atmosphere for all you beautiful people to party in.
Peace & Love – Eddy

[HEALTH] Western Researchers to Release Results of HIV Vaccine Trial
A major announcement scheduled for Tuesday at Western University.
According to a news release, Western University and Sumagen Canada will unveil “preliminary results for the first-ever human applied clinical study of the world’s only preventative HIV vaccine.”
A news conference is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Western University.
AM980 will have a reporter on hand for the announcement.
The vaccine made international headlines when Western University’s Dr. Chil-Yong Kang announced in December 2011 his team had received permission from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to begin clinical trials in humans.
Those trials, involving 40 HIV-positive volunteers, began in March 2012.
Depending on the outcome the vaccine would advance to a second phase which measures “immune responses in humans, involving approximately 600 HIV-negative volunteers who are in the high-risk category for HIV infection.”
The third, and final phase, would measure “the efficacy of the vaccine, involving approximately 6,000 HIV-negative volunteers who are also in the high-risk category for HIV infection.”
Scientists at Western University, financially backed by the pharmaceutical venture company Sumagen, developed the vaccine, which is based on a genetically modified killed whole virus. The vaccine stimulated a strong immune response in early testing and appears to have no adverse effects, according to the researchers.
HALLOWEEN WEEKEND RECAP 2012 #LDNont #costumecontest #VOTE
After a full day of recovery from all that monster juice I think it’s safe to say this past weekend was a fright to remember! I don’t know if the anticipation leading up to, or the actual party was more exciting?! Although when I walked into the club as a ‘regular’ patron I pretty much exploded in excitement…
This is the first year I’ve gotten experience a Lavish Halloween (as a guest) in full force! The game plan was fully laid out and my team did an amazing job executing the coveted weekend! Thanks to everyone who dressed up, brought the spirit, ate all the candy & danced like we’re gonna die young! (a shout out to DJ Pablo Ramirez for a perfect monster mash up)
A HUGE thank you also goes out to the staff, entertainers, TMA bloggers for seamlessly orchestrating your own piece, and to the photography team for capturing all the awesome memories.
You know… the best part about my job is when I’m out and about in the city and when LAVISH happens to come up in conversation, 9/10 times folks mention how friendly, open, happy & diverse the clientele are. So thank YOU all so much for bringing the party, the positive vibes, opening up your hearts up and allowing us to penetrate you with all we got!
The weekend is over but the party in still continuing tomorrow night for CAMEO All Ages Halloween. There will be a 19+ drinking section in the lounge and the dance floor will be for all ages with many local entertainers. Thanks in advance for letting us share the space with the many LGBTQ youth. It is a very special night for them.
