Violent New Years Eve leaves 1 dead, many injured

A pedestrian was killed in one accident, another is clinging to life after a hit-and-run in the city’s southeast end, while another man is in critical condition from stab wounds, after violent New Year’s on London streets.
City police responded to more than 200 calls for service between midnight at 8 a.m. Saturday, many resulting in serious charges, including a stabbing that left a man in critical condition and a shooting downtown that resulted in the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of a handgun.
“It was a very, very busy night,” said Const. Reed Holland. “We had more than three times the normal number of calls for service in those eight hours than we usually have.” (read more)
